Construction of Tocha RAS II Begins with Support from MAR2030 and Portugal 2030 Programmes

The construction of Stolt Sea Farm's Tocha RAS II facility officially began in Praia da Tocha on September 2, 2024. The recirculation aquaculture system plant is expected to produce 440 tonnes of sole per year, and is scheduled for completion in December 2025.

With support from the MAR2030 programme, RAS II will be equipped with state-of-the-art technology that will allow up to 95% of the water used to be recirculated, significantly reducing the consumption of natural resources. This project will not only increase the production of high-quality fish, but will also promote environmentally responsible aquaculture practices.

The Tocha RAS II facility, together with other aquaculture initiatives in Portugal, will strengthen the country's position as a leader in the blue economy. This project is a clear example of how collaboration between funding programmes and innovative projects can generate significant benefits for the economy and the environment.
